Josefina Gilardi (CL/ARG) is an artist, musician and sound designer. She moved to Amsterdam to study at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and completed a MA of Music Design at Utrecht School of Arts. Her practice starts from material sensitivity, both in sound and image - ranging from photography, writing, videos, sonic sculptures and music. Enlarging in the darkroom is a starting point and backbone, another layer to taking pictures. She investigates memory, systems of interdependencies, fiction and porosity. Interested in creating worlds through fabulating imaginaries, she imagines wha lies in the gaps that open with grief, phantoms, inner and outer structures. In her music she has focused on collaborations and community making, from improvisation towards compositions. She experiments with live electronics, using and processing instruments like synthesisers, the flute and guitar; crossed with spoken word and ambient sounds. She has participated in improvisational bands, theatre/writing collective and an experimental duo; collaborations with which she performed live and improvisational sets, readings and a theatre play in several venues across the Netherlands and Buenos Aires.
